Finding Joy

My talented friend, Melanie Snitker has released a new addition to her sweet romance series, Love’s Compass. Finding Joy can be read separately, but it’s fun to note that the heroine, Chelsea Blake, is the sister of Laurie from Finding Peace. I highly recommend the whole series. Chelsea is a stubborn character, determined to prove herself to her wealthy family, even to the point of taking a job completely out of her element at a Longhorn ranch. She doesn’t expect to be so attracted to the owner’s son. Especially after a horrible first impression.
One thing I love about Melanie’s books is how we always learn something new, like about farming lettuce or life on a Longhorn ranch. Chelsea learns a lot from Parker, who is working through physical and emotional scars of the past. You’ll fall in love with these two characters.

findingjoycoverSometimes, what looks like a dead end, is really a new beginning.

A horrific accident changed everything for Parker Wilson. Unable to find solid footing in his disrupted life, he returns to his family’s ranch, a place he thought he’d left behind for good. The scars on his face are a daily reminder of all he’s lost, yet his mom still insists he needs to stop hiding and live his life again. The beautiful new employee she hires is the last thing he needs, despite his mom’s best intentions, and he’ll do whatever it takes to make the girl quit and regain the peace and quiet he prefers.

Nothing short of desperation would force Chelsea Blake to work on a local cattle ranch. But if she’s going to avoid her parents’ judgment when they arrive in three weeks, she must turn the temporary job into a permanent one. Between dodging mud, feeding longhorn cattle, and dealing with a handsome boss who keeps giving her the cold shoulder, staying gainfully employed is proving to be a challenge. Chelsea may not be cut out for ranch life, but her determination to succeed is stronger than Parker’s efforts at forcing her to leave.

Unprepared to discover all they have in common, if they set aside their initial dislike, they just might find joy beyond measure.

Finding Joy is only $0.99
Now through February 19th

The Haunting Me Series

I recently read Haunting Me, a chick lit mystery by Nikki LeClair. It’s fun, clever, and different from your average chick lit read. There’s an obnoxious ghost and a mystery to solve. Nikki also just released a sequel for Christmas, Locking Up Santa. Check them out.

hauntingme_frontcover_kindlePhoebe Mercer has what most people envy; a wonderful boyfriend, fantastic friends and a job in the city’s top law firm. Getting engaged is just the honey in her tea! Then she gets run over by a hot dog cart, wakes up with a concussion and the ability to see ghosts. Well, one ghost. A loud, obnoxious woman who claims to have been murdered for her vast fortune.

Soon, Phoebe is solving a mystery that not only threatens her relationships, but her career as well. As she begins to battle feelings for the ghost’s handsome nephew, she realizes quite a few people in her life are not as they seem. Slowly, Phoebe uncovers the secrets and lies around her, learning that in order to solve this mystery and be free of the ghost, she must lie herself. The only catch? The secrets Phoebe has kept from the people in her life could ruin everything for her, and her ghostly companion, in the end.

NEW!

lockingupsantafrontcoverkindleIt’s the Christmas season, and seven months since Phoebe Mercer’s life dramatically changed. She went from being an overworked legal assistant, to a CEO of a popular beauty company. She moved from the bustling big city, to a quaint seaside town. She’s gone from living with a fiancé, to living with a ghost. Yet, it seems she can’t get a grip on her new life, whether it’s getting used to being a public figure, having a Chief Operating Official who hates her, or a ghost who is just too passionate. Just when she thinks things can’t get any worse, Phoebe’s friend and mentor is arrested for a horrible crime, and the town is ready to lock him away for good. As Phoebe races to prove his innocence, and stop the company from sinking, she must deal with a face from her past that throws her in a disarray of emotion, an unwanted visitor, and old friends who seem to have abandoned her.

The Countess Intrigue

TheCountessIntrigue500x750I recently finished reading a new release by Wendy May Andrews, The Countess Intrigue. Check out this great book and my review.

During her second Season, Lady Elizabeth Castleton is found in a compromising situation with Lord Justice Sinclair, the Earl of Heath. Despite her attraction to him, she is dismayed to find herself betrothed to the man who is rumored to have killed his first wife. Her parents refuse to lend credence to the rumors, so she is soon married and on the way to her husband’s estate.

She cannot decide what to make of the handsome earl but after an attempt is made on her life, Elizabeth is terrified that history is about to repeat itself. She determines to find out once and for all if she is married to a murder.

Can she stay alive long enough to find her happily ever after?

Here’s my review:

This was a page-turner. I love Regency Romance, and this one is sweet and clean. Lady Elizabeth is caught in a compromising position with the Earl of Heath and she must marry him in order to save her reputation. In this period of time, all it takes is being found in a room alone with a man to create a scandal. Elizabeth’s character is delightfully complex, and the inner war with her emotions is perfectly described. The best portion is a sequence of thoughts where she considers how much she likes the Earl and how attractive he is. She thinks to herself that he may actually be a good husband…if not for that little possibility that he killed his first wife. She has to decide what’s fact and what’s fiction with a man ready to offer her everything, but who has a possibly dark past. I enjoyed Justice’s character a lot and I would have liked his perspective to be as well fleshed out as Elizabeth’s. There were a few things I thought he should have been considering in his thoughts that he did not, and I also wanted there to be a confession of love between Elizabeth and Justice at the end. All in all, this book was hard to put down and the mystery of what happened to his first wife keeps the reader in suspense for Elizabeth to find the truth.

Here’s an excerpt:

The evening had already been harrowing with the abduction of her dearest friend from that very ballroom mere moments earlier, but it already felt like eons. After she had left it in the Duke of Wrentham’s hands there had been nothing she could do to help. She had no desire to stand about wringing her hands so she was making every effort to remain calm, keeping up appearances in order to prevent Rose’s absence from becoming common knowledge, in an effort to preserve her reputation. The last thing Elizabeth needed was to be seen conversing with the controversial earl. But despite every instinct shrieking for her to leave the man’s presence on the instant, she forced herself to meet his eye as she bade him good night.

His handsome face always made her blink. Well defined, with a sharp jaw and angular cheekbones. His skin looked smooth, as though he had just left the ministrations of his valet. His wide set eyes were a unique color, somewhere between blue and green, and leant an air of watchful intelligence to his beauty. She wondered if he found it amusing to be constantly faced with wide-eyed women or if he had become immune to it. Perhaps he took it as his due, Elizabeth thought absently, before she refocused her attention. She ought to be keeping her wits about her. Exhaustion from the evening’s turmoil was dulling her senses.

Review of Safe in His Arms

It’s release day for Melanie D. Snitker’s Safe in His Arms. I’m very excited because I had the opportunity to read it early. It’s a clean romantic suspense that will keep you flipping pages and groaning in frustration when something else demands your attention and you have to put it down. I recommend all of Snitker’s work, she writes Christian romance and this is her first romantic suspense novel.

51GKrwhm8yL__SX331_BO1,204,203,200_When a beautiful woman walks into his diner asking for a job, Joel Ash can’t bring himself to say no. The more he gets to know Anna, the more he’s convinced she’s hiding something. Intrigued and drawn to protect her, he prays he can ensure her safety and guard her heart. Even if it means risking his own in the process.

Anna Henderson is on the run. In a new town, she wants nothing more than to trust Joel and the family offering her a fresh beginning. She’s secured vital evidence that could put her obsessive ex behind bars and out of her life. But without the ability to access it, she’ll always be looking over her shoulder.

Worried her past will catch up with her, can Anna ever feel safe in Joel’s arms?

I really enjoyed Anna’s journey to independence and safety. She’s found life hard since the grandparents who raised her passed away and hasn’t known what it is to have a family in several years. I admire her for running away from an abusive relationship. Even though it meant living in her van, it’s exactly what she needed to do. She couldn’t run into a better man to insist on a job. Her fierce determination to be independent and scars from her past don’t make things easy on Joel at all. I love how he can’t resist falling for her even though she pushes him away. Readers will easily fall in love with him. This is a must-read for lovers of clean romance.
